The Bureau of Cultural Competence has provided below a resource list of Interpreter and/or Translator services for providers and agencies to assist them in acquiring Language Access services that meets the consumer and family needs.

We encourage all providers and facilities to seek out interpreter and/or translator services that meets their specific language needs. The list should serve as resource guide or additional information.

  • American Translators Association (ATA) Leaving OMH site This resource link can assist mental health providers and facilities in acquiring an appropriate translator and/or interpreter service for their agency, program or facility needs.
  • The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) Leaving OMH site This resource link can assist mental health providers and facilities in acquiring an appropriate translator and/or interpreter service for their agency, program or facility needs.
  • National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters Leaving OMH site This resource is a national interpreter certification board that trains and certifies agencies and its personnel to provide interpreter and/or translator services.
  • National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) Leaving OMH site The NCIHC is a multidisciplinary organization whose mission is to promote and enhance language access in health care in the United States. The NCIHC started as an informal working group in 1994 and met yearly until it was formally established in 1998. The group is composed of leaders from around the country who work as medical interpreters, interpreter service coordinators and trainers, clinicians, policymakers, advocates and researchers.

  • Perceptions for People with Disabilities (PPD) Leaving OMH site This resource link can assist mental health providers and facilities in acquiring an appropriate translator and/or interpreter service for their agency, program or facility needs.
  • Registry for Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Leaving OMH site The resource is a national membership organization representing the professionals who facilitate communication between people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Signtalk Leaving OMH site This resource is an invaluable resource for Sign Language Interpreters, organizations, and individuals who interact with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community that lives near you.
