The Central New York Psychiatric Center is a comprehensive mental health service delivery system providing a full range of care and treatment to persons incarcerated in the New York State and county correctional system.
The CNYPC inpatient/outpatient system is fully accredited by JCAHO and is the only statewide Correctional/Mental Health system in the United States to have obtained such distinction.
Special Interest to Employees
All clinical departments have affiliation agreements with major universities for internship placement at CNYPC and academic benefits/appointments for clinical supervisors. CNYPC has an extensive inservice training program for all departments/ disciplines which provides CME credits and certificates. A shared Quality of Worklife Facility is available to employees for business and personal functions, and a comprehensive Activity Center is available to staff at designated times. The facility is totally smoke-free.
The CNYPC statewide Medical Staff Organization (MSO) consists of approximately 60 physicians. CNYPC operates a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry in affiliation with SUNY Health Science Syracuse Department of Psychiatry and the Syracuse University College of Law. The Residency Fellowship Program is fully accredited by ACGME.

Internship Opportunities
The CNYPC Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology offers two full-time, paid positions that run annually from September 1 to August 31.
- Interns work with individuals with severe mental illness, personality disorders, and maladaptive behavior issues in forensic inpatient, correctional, and civil-confinement settings.
- Interns are based at the inpatient hospital and complete two supplemental rotations at Mid-State Correctional Facility and Marcy Correctional Facility Regional Mental Health Unit.
- Intensive supervision and weekly didactics complement the interns’ experiences.
