Ways to Get Involved

Friends of the Rochester Psychiatric Center (RPC): The Friends of RPC were formed in 1973 by a group of caring and concerned family members and local citizens.  For over three decades the Friends of RPC have worked closely with RPC staff to develop and support special programs for patients.  Through their active participation and generous financial support they have touched the lives of thousands of patients. The Friends of RPC operate the non-profit hospital gift shop, they award annual staff nursing scholarships, sponsor summer picnics, special outings, holiday and birthday gifts for every patient and many more special programs and activities.  The Friends welcome new members.

Volunteer Opportunities: The purpose and function of volunteers and volunteer organizations at RPC is to extend, enhance and support, but not replace the services of staff members in rendering the best possible care to RPC patients.

There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available throughout the agency.  At the present time, the New York State Office of Mental Health permits volunteers 16 years of age and older to serve in most programs.  Minors must have parental consent.  All volunteers will receive a brief orientation before beginning their volunteer experience.
